It's been a rough decade if you're a diehard Kingdom Hearts fan. From delays to year-long information dry spells, the wait for the highly-anticipated third entry has been excruciating for the thousands of gamers eagerly anticipating getting their hands on it. Yet, against all odds, it looks as if the sequel will finally hit shelves this January.

What's more is that the game actually looks like it's going to be brilliant, featuring an intricate combat system, beautiful visual style and, of course, a host of new Disney worlds with all our favourite animated characters. It looks as if the lengthy wait between the franchise's core entries has brought with it a lot of stellar upgrades and enhancements, making Kingdom Hearts 3 one to watch whether you're a returning fan or a first-time player.

But it's Square's clear confidence in the game that speaks the most about their attitude towards the single-player market. WIth the studio showing three trailers at the various conferences this year, it's evident that they are expecting the sequel to deliver big numbers financially and bring in a favourable reception from audiences.

Whilst the return of Kingdom Hearts is a celebration for franchise devotees, it's also a strong sign that major single-player RPG's are still heralded by the industry.
