7. We Happy Few
Release date: Q2 2016 There's no denying that We Happy Few takes a lot of inspiration from the Bioshock series, with its vibrant art style and unsettling setting of a warped utopian society. You must navigate your way through an alternative-history English town in the 60s among creepy face-painted people who are dosed up on a drug called 'Joy'. As a 'Downer', you're part of a resistance movement that stands against the mind-altering drug. We Happy Few is a first-person survival game, complete with permadeath and procedurally-generated levels. You're given basic objectives, but never too much direction in how exactly to find them, ramping up the intensity as you walk around cobbled streets and fairytale-style houses trying to find clues while not blowing your cover. Much like Bioshock: Infinite, not all is as pleasant as it seems on the surface, and the mime-faced locals will quickly turn hostile if they sense that you're not filled with joy as them, forcing you defend yourself or run away.
