10 USELESS Video Game Skills You Were Tricked Into Buying

7. Synchronoise - Pokemon

Nintendo

You don't need to be into competitive Pokemon to know that certain moves are worth more than others. You have your Hyper Beams and your Tackles, but although it's usually pretty straightforward to tell the good moves apart from the bad ones, sometimes the in-game descriptions can be so poorly phrased that the judgement becomes much more difficult.

Take the move, Synchronoise. It's a powerful Psychic-type attack with tremendous 120 power and 100% accuracy. At first glance, these stats might look absolutely incredible. However, Synchronoise has a very specific gimmick - it can only be used on Pokemon that share at least one type with their user.

Now, consider that half of the Pokemon that can learn this move are pure Psychic types, and that sweet 120 attack power suddenly becomes a meagre 60, due to type resistances. If you're just going by the numbers without reading the description, you can accidentally teach your level 37 Drowzee or Munna a move that's weaker than whatever they learned at level 20.

Reading. The skill that keeps on giving.
