2. The Evil Within 2
The new name on the survivor horror scene from Tango Gameworks, fronted by the imagination of Shinji Mikami (who acted as producer on this game), The Evil Within 2 is a wild, grotesque, and white-knuckled foray into the genre. Once again seeing players in the role of Sebastian Castellanos as he dives back into the STEM system where he searches for his daughter Lily, who he believed to be dead, in the town of Union.
Returning to the blend of stealth and survival horror action that founded the core gameplay mechanics of the original, the sequel elevates the tension by moving the action into a more open-world layout. Forcing players to think on their feet to evade the hordes of body horror enemies roaming the streets, every moment of gameplay is an exercise in pure dread.
Although the game doesn't really kick into high gear until its second half, the insane logic of the world where anything can happen makes for some truly disturbing imagery and unforgettably tense moments.
However, if there's one aspect of this game guaranteed to send a chill down your spine it's the haunting presence of Amina, a dishevelled ghostly figure who torments Sebastian throughout the game.
