10 Video Game Acting Performances Worthy Of An Oscar
9. Martin Sheen - The Illusive Man (Mass Effect 2/3)
Gaming history is littered with instances of celebrities phoning in their performance for a quick buck (we’re mainly looking at you, Peter Dinklage) but every so often, an actor takes a part and treats it with as much reverence as a TV or movie role, and this is exactly what Martin Sheen did with The Illusive Man.
An incredibly mysterious character, Sheen keeps you guessing throughout Mass Effect 2 & 3 as to whether he is a good guy, a bad guy, a good guy with bad intentions or a bad guy with good intentions.
It especially works in a game like Mass Effect because you, the player, are tasked with deciding whether to trust the mysterious figure as you will often find yourself agreeing and disagreeing with his viewpoint, frequently in the same scene.
Considering the character is called The Illusive Man, it was important that his motives remained ambiguous and Sheen does a fantastic job of maintaining the mystery throughout.
