10 Video Game Acting Performances Worthy Of An Oscar
8. Michael Mando - Vaas (Far Cry 3)
Vaas was the main reason a lot of people bought Far Cry 3; his unhinged, intense madman providing the perfect antagonist in a series which was lacking up to that point. Mando’s performance is exemplary and highlights why video game actors should be given a lot more credit than they are.
Everything about Vaas screams sinister; from his sudden bursts of intense anger to his incoherent babbling about the definition of insanity, all delivered with an undercurrent of malice. It was clear from the moment you met him that this guy was going to be a lot of fun to take on. Yes, Hoyte stands out as one hell of a memorable character too, but he doesn’t take anything away from Mando’s terrifying performance.
His introduction - in which he taunts you and your brother - proceeds to shoot the latter and then gives you a headstart to escape is delivered with such intensity by Mando that you genuinely want Jason to survive this ordeal, if only to come back and exact revenge. Whereas lesser games have you blindly hunting an enemy for some unknown reason, Mando’s performance ensures you are fully invested in your mission.
