10 Video Game Bad Endings BETTER Better Than Good Ones
6. Sacrifice Yourself - Dragon Age: Origins
No one really likes to see their favorite character die. It's even worse when it's your own player character, not to mention one that you spent a considerable amount of time creating and leveling up.
For this reason, out of all the endings in Dragon Age: Origins, the one in which your Grey Warden sacrifices themselves in order to destroy the Archdemon and save Ferelden (without doing the ritual with Morrigan) is considered the worst ending in the game. It's painful to see your character go after you gave them so much of your time.
However, at the same time, letting your character die does come with a unique opportunity: seeing what your companions, as well as other characters, think of you. After you die, the game's epilogue plays out from the perspective of your fellow Grey Warden, and you get to see what legacy your character has left behind.
The sacrifice ending includes some fun and touching moments, like Allistair rebuilding the Mage's Circle in your name if you're a mage or the city elfs gaining independence due to your elf's sacrifice.
The ending does such a great job of commemorating your hero that it's almost a shame if they stay alive.
