10 Video Game Bad Endings You Can Get By Pure Accident
4. Bad Kwarma - Oddworld: Soulstorm
Oddworld: Soulstrom is the new shiny entry in the cult classic Oddworld series. The game follows the mechanics of the original Abe’s Oddysee pretty closely. Your goal is to help Abe navigate his way to the end of the level without dying, and you can rescue some of his fellow Mudokons on the way.
Like in Abe’s Oddysee, how many Mudokons you save determines what ending you get. However, Soulstorm tallies up your number of rescues differently to Oddysee, which is why you can aim to get the good ending but still get the bad one on accident.
You see, whereas before Abe’s Oddysee counted the total number of rescues for your ending, Soulstorm counts the percentage of saved Mudokons in each level individually.
To get the good ending, you have to save 80% of Mudokons in at least 12 levels, meaning that even if you have the perfect score in a few levels and dozens of freaky aliens following you, it still may not be enough to save yourself from a catastrophe.
And oh boy, if the bad ending isn’t a catastrophe with a capital C! It punishes your neglect by blowing up Abe and everyone he’s saved in a terrifying and fiery explosion!
