10 Video Game Bad Endings You Can Get By Pure Accident
3. Mash The Button! But Not That One! - Resident Evil: Revelations 2
Nobody likes forced quick-time events, but you know what’s worse than an unnecessary button mash? An unnecessary button mash that punishes you for following its cues!
It may sound like a sick joke, but this is exactly what happens in Resident Evil: Revelations 2. In fact, the QTE in question is how the game judges if you deserve to get the bad ending!
In the third chapter of the game, when Claire and Moira fight mutated Neil, you get a quick-time event as soon as the monster pins the former to the floor.
The game asks you to mash the right button to have Claire pick up her gun and shoot Neil in the face, so you naturally do what you’re told... and then get the ending where Alex Wesker possesses Natalia.
What you’re actually supposed to do to get the good ending is use another button during the QTE to switch to Moira and shoot Neil with her instead. The game tells you how to do it, but in the heat of the moment, it’s easy to go straight for the quick-time event and ignore it on accident.
Especially since the decision doesn’t really have much to do with the finale.
