10 Video Game Betas That Put You Off Full Games
9. Predator: Hunting Grounds
Following in the footsteps of its predecessor Friday The 13th, Predator: Hunting Grounds aimed to expand on the potential for asymmetric multiplayer games within licensed products. On top of that, it was the first dedicated game starring the cloaked alien hunter in a full decade.
Considering the large fanbase the Predator series has cultivated, they were certainly looking for something more authentic after Shane Black's "The Predator" was met with a disastrous reception in 2018. Unfortunately once players got into the game's beta earlier in 2020, the promises from developer Illfonic began to ring hollow.
Aside from the aesthetic identity of the series it was based on, Hunting Grounds had very little to offer. Weak graphics, buggy game mechanics and major imbalances between alien and human factions made the title a real slog. This was exacerbated by the game's low population which caused long waiting times to get into matches. Considering how the title relied so heavily on online multiplayer to win players over, this was an inexcusable fault.
Upon its full release in April 2020, things didn't get much better. Despite the game's focus on pitting one Predator against human troops in the classic jungle environment, the game failed to capture the enjoyment of the 1987 original.
