9. Mr. Freeze - Batman: Arkham City
Though the Batman: Arkham series touts a disappointingly low number of truly creative boss fights, the Mr. Freeze battle from Arkham City is ingenious enough to basically compensate for that.
Widely regarded to be one of the best boss battles of the last decade, its brilliance lies in forcing the player to put so many of their well-honed skills to good use while also being unable to rely on just spamming their favourites.
Once the player has successfully used one of their tactics against Freeze, he will find a way to block that ability - most often by literally freezing it out, and if you're playing on Hard difficulty, you'll need to beat down Freeze eight different ways before the fight comes to an end.
By continually changing up Batman's combat options, it's a staggeringly diverse battle which effortlessly subverts boss fight cliches.
Unfortunately it's also an exceptional enough encounter that the final showdown against Clayface didn't have a hope in hell of living up to it.
