We noted earlier how Dr. Robotnik, for all his malevolent genius, repeatedly makes the same fatal flaw of building his robots out of a material entirely susceptible to Sonic's spikes. In Sonic Spinball, his blunder is raised to almost inexcusable levels.

You see, the pinball platformer's levels are supposed to be part of the ramparts surrounding Eggman's citadel. Think about this: the mad bastard commissioned an entire security system which could only be exploited by somebody - or somehog - rolling into a ball and bouncing around like a pinball.

Like say, Sonic, the very erinaceidae he was hoping to eradicate. Just to help his eternal enemy out even further, the boards are full with rings. Robotnik really flipped out on this one.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
