10 Video Game Bosses Beaten By Their Own Arenas

5. Every Vampire (Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver)

As cool as vampires are (or used to be, before the glittering Twilight variety spoiled them for everybody), they're generally as fragile as a Swarovski swan's egg. The same applies to the brood of bloodsuckers Soul Reaver's rebel-without-a-jawse Raziel has to dispatch during his gothy revenge quest against the clans.

Despite the toothy beggars being intimately aware of their traditional weaknesses - fire, water, sunlight, stakes through the heart, and, for some reason, garlic - each of them combats the moody seraph in an arena perfectly poised to kill them to death.

Raziel's first vampire rival Melchiah is impaled on the many portcullises he rather stupidly installed where a door would have done just fine. Zephon's pride proves his downfall, as a flamethrower on the corpse of one of his victims is turned against him. Next up is the photosensitive Rahab, who chooses to pit battle in what might as well be a conservatory instead of, you know, a totally dark cellar.

Finally, there's the seemingly immortal Dumah - immortal that is, except to the roaring flames of the blast furnace he calls home. At least none of the daft sods battled Raziel in an alium allotment.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
