10 Video Game Bosses That Take Absolutely AGES To Beat

9. Bed Of Chaos - Dark Souls

Opinions vary on which Dark Souls boss is the toughest, but perhaps the most frustratingly long-in-the-tooth is the ludicrous battle against the Bed of Chaos from the first game.

Rather than hacking away at a health bar as per usual, this boss asks the player to attack three energy nodes attached to a gigantic plant-like monster.

And it's here where the Souls' series signature "stern but fair" approach goes out the window, as the Bed of Chaos basically forces players to roll the dice and hope for the best.

The player doesn't have much agency in affecting their survival when the random insta-kill sweep attacks abound out of nowhere.

Making matters worse is that, unless you've unlocked the bonfire nearby, you'll need to make a hefty sprint back to the Bed of Chaos every time you die (which you will, a lot).

You can spend hours fighting this thing before you make any real headway, and fans complained enough about it being a time sink that director Hidetaka Miyazaki eventually called it his "greatest regret" from making the game.
