Multi-phase battles are nothing new in video games, especially when it comes to the final boss. Just as the villain looks like they're out for the count, they'll rise again, stronger than ever. 

However, there's no question Persona 3's big bad is the reigning champion of multi-phase fights.  Boasting an unprecedented 14 phases, the climax with Nyx Avatar can last over an hour.

The celestial being is infuriating for first-timers, since they should be oblivious how long this encounter is going to take. Once Nyx recoups her health bar for the tenth time, players may wonder if they're utilising the correct strategy, since they can't understand why she doesn't stay down.

Unsurprisingly, Nyx saves her most irritating strategies for the final phase, charming the party members to heal her to full health, stretching out this already time-consuming showdown. Also, if the party fails in the last phase, they have to fight her again from the very beginning.

Even though the heroes only fight this extraterrestrial entity one time, this endless battle is sure to leave many people screaming to the heavens out of frustration.
