Most bosses in Psychonauts come down to discovering which of your sweet mind-powers work against your enemy, and masterfully using it to beat them up as only a circus boy cursed by the ocean truly can.

Perhaps the best example of this is El Odio, the bull boss you fight in Black Velvetopia, the level that takes place in the mind of "disgraced" artist Edgar Teglee.

The bull is a symbolic representation of Teglee's anger, and the repressed rage he feels for his his highschool girlfriend, who left him for another cheerleader in her team.

As such, when you fight El Odio, you don't want to kill him, just... maim him a little. As such, you only need one handy skill in your arsenal: telekinesis. Using this, you can throw banderillas at El Odio when he gets stuck or charges at you - sort of like a real matador would. When the cutscene after this plays - and you realise with gentle horror that Edgar is Odio - you then begin a separate sort of boss battle against the matador Dingo Inflagrante.

While this battle does require telekinesis and confusion, the battle against El Odio - not defending him - only requires a healthy dose of the former. And some bull-dodging skills, but you probably realised that already.

I like my comics like I like my coffee - in huge, unquestionably unhealthy doses.
