10 Video Game Bosses You Can Trick Into Killing Themselves

7. Maiden Astraea (Demon's Souls)

Demon's Souls is seared into the video game hall of fame on account of its crazy difficulty, with some gamers declaring it too much of a challenge to be enjoyable, and others relishing in the satisfaction of dying, learning, and slowly becoming more confident and skilled with each enemy encounter.

But for a game with such a tough-as-nails reputation, not all of its boss battles are insanely hard to overcome.

Take Maiden Astraea, who isn't a giant hulking behemoth or a scaly poisonous beast, and instead, is just... a normal-looking blonde lady. If desired, you can beat her in a more direct, conventional fashion (for example, you can shoot at her from a distance using arrows or spells until she dies) or, you can destroy her personal bodyguard, talk to her, and get her to kill herself.

If you opt for the latter strategy, Astraea won't actually attack you, leaving you to face her guardian, Garl Vinland. Vinland will do whatever it takes to stop you from reaching Astraea, but if you get past him and walk up to her, you can initiate a brief bit of dialogue that will end with her suicide.

If only every boss in this game was equally as self-destructive.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
