10 Video Game Bosses You Can Trick Into Killing Themselves

8. Saren (Mass Effect)

Saren Arterius (excellent name) is a rather nasty-looking fellow who you'll encounter on multiple occasions during the first Mass Effect game, and when you bump into him on the planet Ilos, you can use your magical powers of persuasion to make him put a bullet right inside his own skull. You big bully.

Like with many situations in the Mass Effect series, the key here lies in your dialogue choices. Different choices can lead to different outcomes (and it also depends on whether your morality is Renegade or Paragon), but if you can successfully convince Saren that the Sovereign is the enemy, he'll stand down, whip out a gun, and blow his own head off, making your life a whole lot easier in the process.

The more taxing alternative is to fight him in a regular battle, but no matter which path you choose, Saren will end up dead. Unfortunately, he's then reanimated into an even deadlier cybernetic form, but you weren't to know that at the time.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
