10 Video Game Cash Cows The Industry Can’t Stop Milking
7. Halo
Halo 3 was supposed to finish the fight, effectively ending Master Chief's story and letting the franchise seemingly go out on a real high. It was one of the best titles in the series, offering a stellar campaign and fantastic multiplayer action, as well as introducing critically-acclaimed extra like theatre and forge modes.
But Microsoft wasn't going to stop there, not when Halo could make them so much money. Halo 3: ODST was later released, and Bungie created Halo: Reach too, before moving on to start work on the Destiny series. 343 Industries then took over and announced an entire new trilogy of games, bringing Master Chief back all over again.
We also got The Master Chief Collection, featuring remasters of the original trilogy, and the Halo Wars RTS spin-off games were also introduced.
This is one franchise that most fans would prefer to see put out of its misery. At their peak, Halo 2 and 3 had hundreds of thousands of players online at any one time, but Halo has sadly been surpassed by military shooters and games like Overwatch and Fortnite. Without some big improvements and major changes, it's doubtful that the franchise will ever regain its former glory.
