Lego games existed way back in the 90s, with titles like Lego Racers and Lego Island, but it was in the early 2000s, when Lego started getting involved with other licensed properties, that the little plastic bricks really started to take off in the video game world.
The early Lego Star Wars games were widely acclaimed for their fun style of gameplay and huge roster of playable characters, and the developers knew they were onto a good thing. So we started getting more and more of those games, with lots of additional deals being struck to bring an increasingly wider variety of characters and worlds into the Lego universe.
Movie series like Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Lord of the Rings have all had Lego video games. Marvel and DC heroes have also featured as part of the series, which shows no signs of slowing down.
Last year, we had Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 and The Lego Ninjago Movie Video Game, and this year we'll be getting a Lego version of The Incredibles. Many gamers have grown sick of these titles, but they remain popular with young children.
