10 Video Game Character Redesigns The Fans Actually Liked
5. Kitana
Kitana is, in a way, representing women in fighting games everywhere; especially the Mortal Kombat 9 girls.
Elsewhere, Tekken’s Ling Xiaoyu also got a subtle, more covered up redesign in Tekken 7, but that was decidedly smaller than Kitana’s change from Mortal Kombat 9 to Mortal Kombat X.
She had a very revealing costume in MK9, and while there’s nothing inherently wrong with that, wasn’t it a bit boring that practically all the female characters were in the same boat?
It’s like they were given their real costumes and decided to get them retailored for lapdancing at the last second.
Mortal Kombat X covered her up more, but that on its own doesn’t mean a better costume. Kasumi in Dead Or Alive worked better in the sequels which removed clothing from her initial model; although her head to toe bodysuit in the most recent offering is a great look for her too.
With Kitana though, the plunging necklines, spaghetti string clothing and lace after lace after lace just felt... beneath her. MKX she managed to still be sultry, but with a much more powerful and in control of her own destiny as a result.
Mortal Kombat redesigns aren’t always popular, but this one went down well.
