10 Video Game Character Redesigns The Fans Actually Liked
6. Doom Guy
Doom Guy has had a big f***ing redesign in his time.
The modern day Doom Guy does share some surface level similarities to Master Chief, but anyone above the most casual player can easily tell them apart. The current Doom Guy looks exactly like a demon slayer should; a far cry from his over-designed and underwhelming origins.
The first Doom Guy wore green armour, much brighter than the more militaristic shade of his current design. It looked flimsy too, like he’d just put on a t-shirt and matching American football pads.
For some reason, said t-shirt is ripped in the middle to expose his abs. He looks as ready for a day posing at Miami Beach as he is to take on hellspawn.
Now, the bulky shoulders, chunky helmet and red finishes equipped with hellish scratches tell you all you need to know about the man instantly. Nothing about it says ‘saviour’; instead the whole look screams ‘killer’.
Doom has never been a game to pull punches, and Doom Guy now has a design to match.
His design has gotten clearer and more detailed over the years, but once they switched gears from the slightly strange original, they haven’t regretted it once.
