10 Video Game Characters EVERYONE Let Die

9. Mordin - Mass Effect 3

Zoe Baker Resident Evil
BioWare

Level-headed, wise-cracking and loyal 'til the end, it's no wonder Mordin Solus is one of Mass Effect's most beloved companions. And, by the time players got to the third entry in the trilogy, everything was set up for his perfect sacrificial send-off.

Having initially worked on the viral genophage, the scientist's demise comes as he ensures the survival of the Krogan, distributing the cure from atop a collapsing tower on planet Tuchanka. Snuffed out in an instant, it's ultimately a bittersweet moment, with Mordin not able to see the fruits of his labour pan out.

Players can save him, but it denies the scientist his redemptive finale, and one he deserves. Plus, it's a right ball-ache to accomplish. Players need to make three renegade choices over the course of all three games, ultimately concluding with them preventing Solus from going up the tower during his loyalty mission. It also requires enough reputation as a Renegade to complete.
