10 Video Game Characters Everyone Loved (That Just DISAPPEARED)

Wtf happened to Jill Valentine??

The gaming industry isn't just about making great titles, but also marketable characters. After all, slapping the word "Mario" or "Pikachu" on any project is sure to make it fly off the shelves. As a result, developers and studios are always eager to devise a character that's charismatic, likeable, and above all, lucrative.

Of course, even the biggest mascot can disappear into the ether. Ristar, Cool Spot, Earthworm Jim and Zool were big hitters at one time, but fell off the map when everyone had enough.

But sometimes, a beloved character fades into obscurity, despite remaining popular. What's more bizarre is when a treasured hero, hilarious sidekick, or dastardly villain vanishes, despite the fact their corresponding franchise is still going strong.

Jill Valentine appears so infrequently in Resident Evil, it's easy to forget she was the original protagonist. And why hasn't Capcom brought X back to the Mega Man series??

Even though these characters are adored by the gaming community, there hasn't been a whisper about them for years.

10. Morrigan Aensland - Darkstalkers

Debuting in 1994's Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors, Morrigan Aensland didn't become massively popular until starring in Marvel vs Capcom. Due to her provocative appearance, revealing outfit, cheeky manner and unique fighting style, it's understandable how this seductive succubus became a sensation.

Morrigan became so popular, there was a time where it was tough to find a Capcom fighting title that she DIDN'T feature in.

Over the years, she's done crossovers with SNK Vs Capcom, Super Puzzle Fighter II, Cross Edge, Project X Zone, and many others. (She was also a playable character in We Love Golf for some reason.) Morrigan's fame is all the more impressive, considering the salacious demoness has NEVER been a main character.

Interest in Darkstalkers may have died out years ago, but it looked like Morrigan still had a prominent future, since she successfully outgrew the franchise long ago.

And just like that, Morrigan's legacy evaporated almost overnight. Even though she seemed to be everywhere at one point, Morrigan hasn't appeared in a mainstream title since 2017's Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite (and the less said about that, the better).
