10 Video Game Characters Everyone Loved (That Just DISAPPEARED)

9. X - Mega Man

When Mega Man transitioned from the NES to the Super Nintendo, Capcom thought it was the perfect time to overhaul the Blue Bomber. In 1993, they released a darker and more complex platformer called Mega Man X.

This reboot sold a ton of copies, launched a new series, and is considered to be arguably the best Mega Man game ever (Sorry, MM2.)

After the disastrous reception of X6 and X7, Capcom decided Mega Man X8 would be the final instalment. Although X returned in the successful Mega Man Zero spin-off, the Maverick-busting android wasn't a playable character.

But in 2008, Capcom went back to basics, releasing Mega Man 9 and 10 in quick succession. After these two titles received heavy praise, it didn't seem far-fetched to believe Capcom would give the X saga another shot. And when Mega Man creator, Keiji Inafune, started prepping a new X trilogy called Maverick Hunter in 2010, it looked like fans would finally get their wish.

Unfortunately, the project was terminated six months in, leaving X's future uncertain once more. Even though X reigned supreme during the 1990s, the beloved robot hasn't played a prominent role in a single video game since 2004.
