Athena is something of a dark horse. As a mercenary who spent much of her life wandering Pandora in search of work, she does not exactly smack of superhero material. But if you can survive, on your own, in a place as brutal as Pandora, then you are a special breed of fighter.

And Athena can fight. She is smart, agile, a great shot with any weapon and a potent melee striker.

But what makes her truly dangerous is her Aspis, a shield that can absorb incoming damage and amplify it, and as with Captain America can be thrown with pin-point accuracy: attack and her she will return the favour with the full force of a semi struck to the face.

Add the personal shields inherent in the Borderlands universe, and she becomes a proper tank.

With Revan focused on commanding the team someone has to watch his back, and that role falls to Athena. Together they anchor the line and form the pivot around which the battle turns.

As teammates go her luck has been poor (two ended up working for the big bad) but give her an honourable group and she’ll fight out of her skin for them.
