10 Video Game Characters You Didn't Take Seriously (Until They Killed You)

2. Wizpig (Diddy Kong Racing)

Now there's no questioning Wizpig's credentials, but equally, there's no denying he's literally a massive pig in a cape. Pigs, traditionally, are not famed for their rapidity on four feet, let alone two, making this porcine sprinter something of a laughable opponent for a go-kart (one which may, admittedly, be driven by a badger).

That is until the race begins and the big pig cheats. Everybody knows holding accelerate just as the second light goes out gives you a boost in every racing game ever, but Wizpig goes one better: he sets off entirely. The first lap is spent just trying to make up ground on the swine, who, oh yes, can also fly.

Admittedly, Wizpig isn't that difficult to beat (at least, until you race him in an asteroid field cave), but only those with troubled memories of A Link to the Past could anticipate just how tough a giant magical pig could possibly be.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
