7. Raziel

The Legacy of Kain is one of those franchises that you wouldn’t be blamed for simply forgetting at this point. It still is so beloved by a select group, but they almost seem to remember it in silence after it was taken and twisted into a multiplayer setting. Because of course, this made business sense at the time.

This experiment never actually left beta in 2015, when a beta was still more of a beta and not a glorified demo or server stress test. And before this, the last significant game in the franchise was Legacy of Kain: Defiance back in 2003. Unfortunately though, since that failed beta in 2015 Square Enix has let this one fall into obscurity.

Becoming more of a cult classic of a series at this point, we will probably never hear from Raziel again or get to explore the rich and interesting world that he inhabited. The best thing players could truly hope for now is some sort of remastering, but with Square Enix not finding franchises such as Tomb Raider or Hitman “financially viable”, this probably won’t be the case.
