Sonic the Hedgehog may be one of the greatest platformers ever made, but it's also really damn difficult, especially if you played it as a young whippersnapper.

But thankfully Sega included a secret level select cheat, which could be activated by pressing "Up, Down, Left, Right" on the title screen. At this point you should hear the series' iconic ring chime sound, after which you need to hold "A" and press "Start."

This will take you to a level select screen where you're free to zoom directly to any of the game's stages, ensuring that you can return to a tricky level without having to slog your way there from the statrt of the game - or if you're feeling a bit cheeky, just skip straight to the final level.
