10 Video Game Cheats Everyone Used

7. "Motherlode" (50,000 Simoleans) - The Sims 2

The Sims franchise is one of the most commercially successful video game empires of the last 20 years for one major reason: it's all about living your best (digital) life.

The games let you kit yourself out with an improbably huge house you'll never be able to afford in that overrated thing called "real life," and because The Sims doesn't take itself one iota too seriously, there are also a ton of cheat codes available to give players instant gratification.

If you'd rather not earn cash the honest way by working for it, you can press "Control, Shift, and C" to open the cheat menu, and enter the code "motherlode" (formerly "klapaucius" and "rosebud" in various versions of the original Sims), which will immediately drop a cool 50,000 Simoleans into your bank account.

Though there are technically more useful cheats, such as "familyfunds (write family name here)" to give said family as much money as you desire, motherlode's catchy name and ease of use ultimately allowed it to become a pop-culture mainstay in its own right.
