10 Video Game Choices That Seem Important (But Are Actually POINTLESS)

9. Master Ball Or Gold Nugget - Pokémon X & Y

Pokémon games aren't really known for giving the player big choices, aside from the two obvious ones: which creature you're choosing as your starter Pokémon, and what awful, dehumanizing name your main rival will have.

Gary? No, his name is "butt", Professor Oak! All lowercase.

However, in Pokémon X & Y, Game Freak surprises you with a pretty intense choice that's unlike anything else in their series... Until it turns out it actually is the same as everything else.

After you clean up the Poké Ball factory from the criminals who took it over, the company's owner presents you with a choice of reward—a Master Ball (a guaranteed catch) or a big gold nugget (sells for lots of cash).

Now, although picking the nugget over a Master Ball is objectively wrong, there at least appear to be stakes here. If you pick wrong, you may end up without the game's only Master Ball. However, since Pokémon loves to handhold its players, the choice is actually a dud. Regardless of which option you choose, the CEO will let you keep the other prize as well.

What's with the fake tension, Mr. CEO? This ten-year-old just saved your whole business, for Arceus' sake!
