10 Video Game Choices That Seem Important (But Are Actually POINTLESS)
7. The Ending - Mass Effect 3
Mass Effect 3's biggest flaw is definitely its original ending, which, despite BioWare's effort to patch it with updates and a DLC, still plagues the good reputation of the series.
Not because it does the main characters and their personal storylines dirty, and not because it features a random Deus Ex Machina ghost child, but because no matter what option you pick in the end, the decision you make feels utterly pointless.
Now, the endings of Mass Effect 3 are all quite different from one another. One lets you destroy the Reapers while the other two are about assimilating them with the other species. This said, the final decision is completely meaningless to you as the player.
The choices you're offered are always the same, regardless of what you've done up until the finale, and all three of them look almost identical on screen. It's basically the same cutscene three times with minor alterations dependent on your choice.
You might be deciding the fate of all the galaxy here, but it sure doesn't really feel like it matters. Your story will always end the same way—abruptly and with a severe case of anticlimactic, boring cutscenes.
