10 Video Game Clichés That We Secretly Love
5. The Point Of No Return
Older video games are infamous for stranding players without sufficient resources to complete the final section, and so it's now incredibly common for most AAA epics to let the player know they're near the end with a blinking neon light.
Typically, you'll be met with a message which says, "This is the point of no return. Do you still want to continue?"
Much like the suspiciously generous item drop, it tells the player to prepare for a hefty battle ahead, and also make sure that their side quest affairs are all taken care of, because they won't be able to return for a while - if at all.
While some purists might argue that it robs games of their surprise factor, considering how infuriating it can be to dive headlong into the final level of a game unprepared - especially for us adults with limited time - it's simply good manners that you're clued into what's ahead.
