10 Video Game Cliffhangers That Went NOWHERE
9. The Punisher (2005)
Getting a good bit of superhero content wasn't as easy in the early 2000s as it is now. Still, one hidden gem that did pop up was a wicked third-person shooter based on the iconic anti-hero, The Punisher - loosely based on the 2004 movie of the same name.
This game was a bonafide action-fest, with violence, fun, some great character development for the titular Frank Castle, and plenty of appearances from Marvel characters, both popular and lesser known. Sadly, much like the movie, the game didn't get a sequel, which would hurt less had it not ended by cruelly waving one in your face.
This THQ title concluded with a post-credits scene that saw the iconic villain Kingpin swear his revenge on The Punisher after a run-in earlier in the game. He watched as Bullseye was loaded onto a stretcher and let out badass lines about The Punisher dying by his hand. Their showdown would have been epic, but, of course, it never happened.
The MCU is indeed known for adding sequel bait in their post-credit scenes. But they actually happen, so The Punisher wasn't as ahead of its time as you might think.
