5. Red Dead Redemption - Assassins Creed
Another one that I dont see literally crossing over, rather the concepts. Although its pretty interesting to imagine the Red Dead story in an AC game, with John Marsden as an assassin hunting down Templars; Bill Williamson, Javier Escuella and Dutch Van Der Linde. That would have been pretty cool but obviously for the best that it wasnt the case. The Assassin's Creed series has thus far only really travelled to 3 locations Palestine, Italy and America. That means the series has countless other places and times it has yet to visit. Seeing as it has already visited America, a game set in the Wild West is probably a long ways off but not out of the question. Red Dead Redemption was an incredible game, one of the all-time greats, and the Assassins Creed series is awesome, despite the abuse it often gets for being annualised and rarely evolving. Combining these two ideas could not be a bad thing. Both are third-person, open-world, action adventure games, therefore merging the ideas wouldnt be too difficult. Like I said, this wouldnt be an amalgamation of the two games, simply one game with ideas from the other. I would make such a game an Assassins Creed title to keep with the assassin character, time-travel and gameplay tropes. It goes without saying a Red Dead game with an assassin as the protagonist would be a bit weird. Assassins Creed in a huge open-world, set in the Wild West featuring wacky characters and an emotional story like that of Red Dead. ACIII was a little like RDR, in that it had vast forests, mountains and valleys, killing and skinning animals that are localised to certain regions, horse and carriage for transport, etc. As well as this the Assassins Creed series has always had great graphics as did RDR, although a little dated now. Thus it definitely wouldnt take much to combine the ideas of both franchises. Gameplay-wise RDR was very fun and suited the game, like a refined version of GTA IV. The horse-riding in particular was fantastic in RDR, whereas its never felt quite right in the AC series. A Wild West Assassins Creed game should definitely adopt the horse mechanics of RDR. The gunplay is the AC series also hasnt been perfected as of yet, its annoying and too difficult, meaning few people use the guns. RDR however had really good gunplay, from the mechanics to the variety of guns and of course Dead Eye. If they couldnt make the shooting more fun for an AC game then I would happily use a system like Dead Eye that slows everything down. Admittedly an AC game set in the time period of RDR would maybe be all too similar to ACIII but they could easily make it different enough to avoid such issues. One issue with having such a game in the Wild West would be the large expanses of flat desert land; it would severely limit the amount of climbing and free-running that could be done. I dont think fans would care too much about this as theyd have horses and fast travel, not to mention there would be plenty of time for all that in the towns and forests. The Assassins Creed series has come under a lot of fire the past few years and so maybe Im one of few clamouring for any more of them, regardless of the setting. Nonetheless I think the idea of seeing the cowboy iteration of the Assassin outfit, walking along the dusty desert, riding horseback at sunset or duelling with a Templar is a really tantalising one.
