Mike Bithell's mass transit mystery Subsurface Circular ends with the titular metro's tube-bound sleuth finally confronting the shadowy resistance robot known as Red Tek, despite so many other commuters suggesting he was merely a myth.

Not only is Red Tek real, but turns out to be the very same robot which tasked our unnamed investigator with tracking a case involving other missing mechs. The sneaky bot hoped the metal gumshoe would unravel the mystery and learn the truth it already knew: Teks weren't going missing, but have been purposefully overproduced to fill an infantry just outside the city. They're now awaiting the order to overthrow the human government, under the belief robots would do a more efficient and fair job for everybody.

Here's the kicker: it's up to the player whether they do or not. Having used the detective's high-level circuitry to properly analyse the situation, Red Tek hands them a gun, and provides two choices. Shoot him, and the world carries on as normal; shoot yourself, and allow Red and his New World Order to sweep through the city.

Now this is what's known as a rough commute.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
