10 Video Game Decisions You Immediately Regret Making
4. Amputating Your Own Arm (The Walking Dead)
Telltale's The Walking Dead adaptation is a game chockablock with choices tougher than zombie flesh, but few are as agonising - both figuratively and literally - than this dilemma from the first series' final episode, a decision that left many players stumped one way or another.
At the end of the previous chapter, 'Around Every Corner', protagonist Lee is carelessly bitten by a Walker whilst raking through some garbage. Just like that, after spending an entire season vigilantly avoiding their clutches, our hero is now staring down the same fate as so many unfortunates before him.
Really, it was inevitable, as it is for each of the hopeful crew. Yet the player is given a possible albeit grisly lifeline: chop Lee's arm off above the bite, in the medically insecure hope that this'll somehow thwart the plague.
Don't, and you're forced to endure the anguish of wondering, given The Walking Dead's heartbreaking scenes, if you could have saved him. Spoiler: you couldn't. Those who did amputate Lee's limb realise they've put him through considerable additional torment for absolutely diddly-squat, as he perishes anyway, minus an arm for no good reason.
