10 Video Game Decisions You Immediately Regret Making

2. After School Clubs (Persona 4)

The latter entries in the Persona series perfectly capture the high-school life, right down to the tedious extra-curricular clubs your parents force you to attend because "they'll be 'enriching" (and give them a few hours peace). In the stellar fourth outing, the evening activities on offer at sleepy suburban school Yasogami High comprise the usual array of sports nonsense, as well as cultural clubs, not involving Boy George, but drama and band.

From 19 April, our TV-tripping protagonist gets to pick one, but the implications of the choice aren't immediate. Although both the drama and music society open up a Social Link of the Sun arcana, the choice of friendship on offer differs: on the one side, you have talented if overbearing thesp Yumi Ozawa, on the other painfully shy trombonist Ayane Matsunaga.

Ultimately, it makes no difference either way, but one aspect of life Persona absolutely nails is chronic FOMO. It's impossible, once you're stuck performing a terrible high-school production of Twelfth Night, to not look across to the music room and wonder if Thursday nights would be better spent playing the flute badly.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
