Working under the fateful watch of video games' most hated publisher was never going to be easy, but somehow Respawn Entertainment has managed to avoid the fate of similar rebels under EA and still produce the types of games players want. Of course, Respawn's most recent outings, Apex Predators and Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order have been huge successes, but the game that most epitomises their dedication to their fans comes in the form of Titanfall 2.

Titanfall 2 is a brilliant game. It is arguably one of the best FPSes of the last decade. But EA didn't have faith in the franchise. Titanfall 2 was released 28 October 2016, sandwiched between Battlefield 1 and CoD Infinite Warfare. Titanfall 2 was sent out to die.

It would have been easier for Respawn to cut their losses and move onto the next project. But they had an obligation to the fanbase that committed to their product. Respawn continued to support Titanfall 2 by listening to fans and adding incremental changes, such as making the gameplay less reactive and more tactical, allowing for thought out tactics over frantic pushes.

These changes came out alongside six free DLC packages which not only made Titanfall 2 great value for money but showed that a great game is more important than that bottom line.
