10 Video Game Difficulty Modes That Are Utterly BROKEN

6. Legendary Difficulty - Halo 2

Halo 2's campaign on Legendary difficulty remains by far the toughest of the entire series, and you'll find few who've experienced it that will argue otherwise.

As is expected for the highest difficulty of any such game, the enemies are abundant in a much greater number, their AI routines are significantly more ruthless, and weaker enemy types are replaced by tougher ones.

Uber-dangerous Ultra Elites are now fairly common, and perhaps worst of all, Jackal Snipers will appear regularly and kill the player with a single damn shot.

Even those hoping to make the experience bearable through co-op play aren't much helped, as if one of you dies you both have to start again from the last checkpoint, as has surely wrecked more than a few friendships over the last near-20 years.

Factoring in all this in addition to Master Chief's shield resistance being halved, and Halo 2 on Legendary is basically an exercise in self-flagellation for anyone who dares attempt it.

Prevailing is as much about luck as it is skill, really, with the logic being that you throw enough Master Chiefs at a situation and eventually you must succeed.

Between the sheer absurd difficulty and some dodgy spawning issues - which see you immediately get melted by enemy fire - it's clear that Bungie didn't sufficiently test the mode, presumably due to the game's infamously rushed production.

It is the epitome of a difficulty mode that's just egregiously unbalanced and not really fun at all.
