10 Video Game Endings That Left You Totally Speechless
3. John Marston Is Betrayed - Red Dead Redemption
Red Dead Redemption follows the adventures of one John Marston, an outlaw who sets out across the course of the game to seek vengeance against those who betrayed him after being hired by the government to do so. In exchange for completing the task, they promise to pardon Marston of all crimes so that he may live out his days in peace.
After having spent the sum of the entire game murdering your former gang members (and a whole lot more people), Marston hangs up his guns. But then the game throws something terrible at you: betrayed by a government agent, Marston suddenly finds himself ambushed by dozens of men. After getting his kids to safety, he confronts them all in battle...
...and is brutally shot to pieces. Then he dies.
It was a totally unexpected turn of events, to say the least. And as players sat and stared, speechless, at the fate of the poor hero they'd just spent countless hours controlling, it seemed like a cruel joke. And yet, in a neat twist, the game then switches to the perspective of Jack, John's son, who takes up arms and sets out to get some revenge of his own...
