10 Video Game Enemies We Can't Believe Got Cut

5. Metal Gear Solid 2 - Chinaman

When it comes to unique characters that push the boundaries in video games, the early Metal Gear Solid titles have some of the best. Hideo Kojima laughs in the face of those who say “that’s maybe a bit much, don’t you think?”.

Chinaman, once planned for Metal Gear Solid 2, is as bombastic as you’d expect from any game in the franchise; a Vietnamese man who, after being abducted as a child, grew up in the Chinatown district of New York and would claim he was “more Chinese than the Chinese”. That’s already a little bit of an eccentric set-up but it gets weirder when you start looking at his skillset.

Not only did he have the world record for holding one’s breath underwater but he could also summon sharks. Oh, and his full body dragon tattoo apparently would come to life when it touched water. Because Kojima.

With his boss battle taking place underwater, it certainly would’ve added not just another memorable twist on the MGS gameplay formula but, considering the game was released in 2001, it would’ve been mighty impressive to behold. Vamp’s boss fight that ultimately replaced Chinaman’s was fun, but fighting sharks and a dragon made out of tattoos… who can say no to that level of madness?

Needless to say, had this happened Chinaman’s would be remembered right up there as one of the most memorable bosses in the franchise.
