The power of the placebo effect is strong. Even though I know holding ‘down and B’ does nothing when catching a Pokémon doesn’t mean that I haven’t done it on every single Nintendo console I’ve ever played.

The same can be said for cartridge based video game systems. You put it in, the game doesn’t run correctly, so what is one supposed to do?

In reality, and I’m sorry to break it to you all, but blowing into your cartridges did and still does nothing. Removing and placing the cart back into the console is all it takes, just trying to get the pins on both ends to line up so that the hardware can recognise each other.

In fact, I'd advise you just slow down there for a second, take a look at the back of that Nintendo 64 cartridge and read that label before you do this next time. Not only does blowing into a cartridge not help your games to run, companies openly advise against it.

We’ve all done it so I’m not going to stop you but equally don’t come crying to me when your childhood copy of Super Mario 64 stops working because you’ve spat into it too much…
