Sid Meier's Civilization series is the go-to for fans of the digital strategy genre. The game sees players take control of a famous empire from history and make their way through the ages, developing technologies and making use of their unique abilities to help meet various win conditions.

With all of history's most infamous leaders amassed together, a number of fans have come up with the theory that the Civilization series actually takes place in the afterlife. These leaders are able to live on together forever, establishing lucrative trade routes, setting up embassies and waging their wars for all eternity.

One of the biggest pieces of evidence for this comes from the fact that all these leaders can live for thousands of years and survive everything from barbarian raids to nuclear bombings.

It certainly changes things up thinking about all of the troops and buildings being ethereal beings in game, but should at least help the more bloodthirsty players out there feel a little bit less guilty about the atrocities they commit, knowing that the people they're taking down aren't exactly on the mortal plains.
