10 Video Game Fights You Didn't Know How To End

3. Psycho Mantis - Metal Gear Solid

Hideo Kojima strikes again, with one of the most fiendishly, creatively challenging boss fights in the history of video games - Metal Gear Solid's Psycho Mantis.

Mantis is an extremely powerful psychic, and as a result the boss fight forces players to think massively outside the box - or more likely, look up the solution in a guide.

Mantis is capable of reading Snake's mind, as is depicted by him being able to predict all of the player's attacks and controller inputs.

Players were left baffled, then, because the solution to overcoming Mantis' abilities is so absurdly left-field: take your controller and plug it in the second controller port.

This prevents Mantis from reading your mind and anticipating your attacks, even if his penchant for the telekinetic means the remainder of the fight is hardly a piece of cake.

Granted, players who actually make use of their codec can learn the solution from Colonel Campbell, but for many frustrated players, they simply figured they were missing something elegantly simple. As it turned out, they weren't.
