10 Video Game Film Adaptations In Production Right Now

10. Heavy Rain

Heavy Rain, it is safe to say, is not celebrated for its overtly optimistic storyline. However, it is a remarkable feat in terms of intelligent choice-based gaming. Quantic Dream Pictures and New Line Cinema are set to adapt Heavy Rain into a film - a concept that seems almost impossible due the game's multiple-scenario environment. The nature of Heavy Rain solidly relies upon input from the player and to develop this into a film could seem an extremely linear, or even inaccurate, representation. Acclaimed writer of NYPD Blue and Deadwood, David Milch, is set to write the currently entitled 'Rain'. Working with Warner Bros who have apparently fast-tracked the project, producers Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne are also on board. Lead protagonist Ethan Mars is voiced and motion-captured by British actor Pascal Langdale in the game. As the casting process is yet to be disclosed we can only speculate upon any potential cast members. The most budding question, for anyone familiar with the game, will be to which storyline the producers choose to follow. Overall, the game has seven different endings for Ethan Mars alone, not to mention the further exploration of the other three playable characters. As a whole, the game is an enigma. It will be interesting to see how this translates onto screen, with a lack of input from the audience... and how the complex themes and scenarios are re-imagined for a much larger audience.
