10 Video Game Franchises That Desperately Need Reboots
1. Timesplitters
Although Timesplitters was developed by Free Radical Design, it’s often considered the spiritual sibling of Rare’s GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark. That’s because Free Radical Design itself was built by some ex-Rare employees, showing that they still had what it took to make an awesomely fun first person shooter.
Free Radical moved on from Timesplitters though to make the disastrously disappointing Haze, before becoming Crytek UK and making Crysis sequels. Timesplitters itself though was picked up by THQ Nordic in 2018, suggesting a reboot may be incoming in the not too distant future.
Some parts of the game were very of its era, and are perhaps being looked back on with rose tinted glasses. It was quite linear and rigid in places, and had that half goofy half edgy sense of humour which was everywhere in the early to mid ‘00s.
However, the game itself was still a blast and with a few tweaks could be a big seller these days. The level editor mode was ahead of its time, while the action packed multiplayer mode would be perfect for online gameplay.
Timesplitters is a huge sleeping giant, and hopefully THQ can awaken it.
