10 Video Game Franchises That Just Sat Out An ENTIRE Generation
8. Silent Hill
Horror giant Silent Hill was a masterful effort that once stood alongside the likes of Resident Evil and Dead Space, but it has since disappeared from view.
Silent Hill's fall from grace is a sad tale, much like the narratives in the games themselves. Japanese studio Konami had made some ridiculous decisions with the series in the early 2010s. Kicking off the franchise's downfall was Silent Hill: Downpour, a middling release with poor technical performance. This was followed up by the Silent Hill HD Collection, which stands as one of the worst remasters ever made. Finally, Book of Memories fare slightly better, but still fell short of the franchise's pedigree.
These three strikes utterly demolished any faith the fanbase had left. Yet a couple of months later, Silent Hills was announced by Kojima Productions. The overjoyed community quickly grew disappointed as Konami saw fit to call off production of the ambitious title.
Elements of Silent Hills, most notably its cast, ended up migrating over to Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding. While a unique title in its own right, the Silent Hills franchise remains lost in the fog as of the eighth generation. With no plans from Konami to bring the series back, the best fans can hope for now is either a remake or a spiritual successor a-la Cities: Skylines.
