10 Video Game Franchises That Just Sat Out An ENTIRE Generation
7. The Legacy Of Kain
A more underrated but nevertheless praised franchise is next on our list. The Legacy of Kain was an action-adventure which achieved strong fanfare in the late nineties and early 2000s. With its imaginative setting and flashy combat, it was able to make an impression under both Silicon Knights and Crystal Dynamics who took up development duties in 1999.
Its last release was 2003's Legacy of Kain: Defiance for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox which recieved decent reviews. After five games in the series, CD wanted to move on to something new and were drafted in to take the reins on the wildly popular Tomb Raider franchise.
Beginning with Tomb Raider: Legend in 2006, the series became the developer's sole output for the next decade. Legacy of Kain was left on the backburner and has never made a comeback. The Legacy of Kaine has now skipped two console generations in a row.
With Crystal Dynamics firmly posted on Marvel's Avengers, we're unlikely to see anything from this forgotten franchise for some time. It's a shame too as the developer has proven itself to have a great eye for action combat; I'm sure we'd much rather have LOK return than be subjected to endless live service updates...
