10 Video Game Franchises That Just Sat Out An ENTIRE Generation

6. Prince Of Persia

The Prince of Persia franchise has for over thirty years and built its name on difficult platforming challenges. The Sands of Time from 2003 reinvigorated the series and went on to produce a highly popular trilogy on the sixth generation.

In 2007, along came Assassin's Creed and with it, Ubisoft's direction changed. The climbing and killing style of third-person action was a seamless translation from one series to another and once AC achieved its high success, there was no going back.

From then on, Prince of Persia would only have an occassional entry. The 2008 reboot was big on artistic design, but low on challenging gameplay. While this was going on, its competiting franchise went from strength to strength. Assassin's Creed 2 was a huge hit in 2009, telling Ubisoft's investors that the series was no longer so viable.

Prince of Persia would eventually come to a halt after 2010's The Forgotten Sands, and saw no new releases on the PS4 or Xbox One. A remake was announced recently, but it's hardly a continuation.

With Ubisoft still hellbent on making a new Assassin's Creed every year and Watch Dogs returning alongside, the Prince is unlikely to get his due.
